The Higher Technician in the Design of Products made in Composite Materials using Additive Manufacturing Technologies is an extremely specialized figure who finds employment in avant-garde companies which design, develop and make innovative highly technological products in sectors ranging from classic cars to sports cars as well as in aeronautical and aerospace industries


The Higher Technician in Composite Materials and Additive Manufacturing finds employment in companies which develop and make products using innovative materials and advanced technologies to obtain maximum/top performance in competitive sectors such as automotive, sports and racing cars, aeronautics and aerospace industries. The technicians possess specialized competence in design, industrialization and the manufacture of products made in composite materials (in particular carbon fiber) and which are produced with Additive Manufacturing technologies using three-dimensional industrial prints.

2.000 hours, 800 of which involve a didactic internship in a company.


The course offers the possibility to do an internship abroad either as a curricular activity or as an extracurricular activity (during summer holidays and outside training course hours)

Percentage of students who have successfully completed ITS MAKER courses and are currently employed in companies in relevant sectors, with roles that are coherent with the course profile.


  • the two-year training course is designed for 22 students with a secondary school diploma preferably of a technical or scientific nature.
  • It is divided in four semesters for a total of 2000 hours, 760 of which involve didactic internships/project work in leading local companies which adopt innovative technologies in the production of composite materials in the automotive sector ( from racing cars to street cars) to aeronautics and aerospace sectors.
  • Preliminary extracurricular re-alignment courses in technical design, reading of mechanical drawings, chemistry of materials, mechanical technology, mathematics and English.
  • Attendance is compulsory with a minimum participation of 80% of the total hours
  • The course is free of charge, apart from a 200 Euro admission fee
  • The course is heavily oriented to the practical laboratory teaching methodology alternated with theoretical lessons in the classroom and in companies, practical tasks and group work in laboratories with specialist software.
  • Guided visits and testimonials from representatives of the most important motor sport sector companies in Emilia Romagna are included.


40% of the teaching hours are entrusted to companies which provide experts with technological skills and knowledge of technical documentation. 30% of the teaching hours are taught by consultants from the world of work with experience in the specific sector. The remaining part is covered by university teachers regarding features and structural analysis of materials and the various ways of working and treating materials, Teachers from the Higher Technical Institute take care of scientific, technological linguistic and technical aspects


Students who pass the final exam are issued with a Higher Level Technician diploma in process innovation and mechanical products (V level EQV) issued by the MIUR.
The diploma allows access to public selection processes and represents the equivalent of the practicing period required to sit the state exams to be recognized within the Industrial Technician profession


The ITS MAKER Foundation welcomes canditatures of teachers who would like to come forward on the basis of the call for trainers for the four sites of Bologna, Modena, Reggio Emilia and Fornovo (PR).
Teachers must have matured in the subjects relating to the course they are interested in at least:

  • Five years of experience, if from the working world,
  • Three years of teaching experience, if from the world of School, University and Professional Training
